Lead Organization: Securities Commission of The Bahamas
During WIW, the Securities Commission of The Bahamas (SCB) will be launching a pilot programme for the inclusion of financial literacy in the national curriculum. Three schools, two junior high schools and one primary school, will be involved in the pilot programme. The pilot is expected to last one year and will focus on saving, budgeting, numeracy, managing credit and debt and investing basics.
As a member of the IFIE Americas Caribbean Working Group, the SCB is participating in the video competition: Young Investors, Creative Expressions - Invest in You! The competition aims to encourage young people ages 15-25 to develop a video presentation to informatively showcase an element of investor literacy. Winning videos will be posted on the SCB’s website and the IFIE Global website. The competition will run from 2 October to 2 November 2017.
The SCB will also be launching its official Facebook page. The SCB will use its Facebook page as a platform to further reach targeted demographic groups with investor education information. The SCB will also be expanding the investor education section of its website with more material and resources.
In addition, the SCB will be distributing its Frauds and Scams booklets at a local shopping mall on 7 October 2017. The SCB is targeting a wide cross-section of the public using this avenue.
The SCB is also planning to release short investor education-related videos during WIW.
